@9:28 See? It's not only me, is not: you're trolling Linus 'cuz u jelly. Hey Linus, Pro Tip: don't yank the cables, they have a header where you unplug from, it's called not wearing and tearing, it's about caring for the stuff so the stuff can take care of you. The questions: 1) How many times an UPS, specially big ones, have save you work/time? Not really, if ever. 2) How much $/day that insurance worth? a lot, for their little usefulness. 3) Was the UPS worth it? No. 4) You feel it's a rip off? Absolutely. How about you?

I oversee quite a bit of large CNC machine installs. It extremely important to have the manufacturer give their approval before the machine is turned on. Also, its extremely important to have a third part installer ensure the work is done correctly to the manuals. That way the manufacture cannot blame the installer if the machine breaks later down the line. Faulty design or not, put the work on the manufacturer to keep your hands clean.

Not to be pedantic, but you can just say kilowatt instead of KiloVoltAmp. *All of you SHUT UP!!!* _I know the difference matters,_ but you look around that shop and tell me exactly how many 10HP pure induction motors you see running off the UPS? None. *_NONE!_* Those server supplies propably run at 99.9% unity. That makes a KiloVoltAmp a kilowatt.

For 30k in canuckistan rubles you could snag some 2 volt industrial cells and an inverter/charger, gaining a VERY capable UPS... with the bus bar hardware included. But then you'd also need a proper dedicated server room, rather than Harry Potter's tiny hovel under the stairs. Linus' infinite bins of crap are the only things that should be under those stairs.

Ahhh the famous busbar loose nuts fire issue, this is so common. Slap an extra nylock nut on top of the connection nut for insurance.

Engineers blame installers, installers blame users, users blame engineers, repeat. Typical story. I put my money on Eaton being at fault. Shit quality lately, like most companies.

Owned an Automotive Repair Center for 40 years. we had to replace our scopes and scanners yearly @ 10k per for scanners and 25-30k for scope consols .. replaced the power panels every 3-4 years from compressor load arching the BUS-BAR ... It ain't cheap being in the BIG CHAIR !!!

Why wouldn't you just use a backup generator for that kind of money?
LovelyDoetje 7 tuntia sitten
He doesn't want any voltagedrops and cuts in his server powersupply. A backup generator isn't fast enough to keep everything running and the voltage output isn't usually clean enough for a serverroom etc. A backup generator requires a lot of maintenance. A UPS doesn't have any cuts/drops in voltage when the main power fails. Depending on the batteries and power load you can survive on these for several hours.

5:40, simple way to find out who is at fault. Who has the installation manual for the damaged unit?
Cruznick06 Päivä sitten
Eaton is super generous to cut you guys a deal. Glad to know what went wrong and how to not repeat the same mistakes!
GregInHouston2 Päivä sitten
You likely still have a configuration problem. In my experience, these things come pre-configured to shut everything down when you reach 50% of your batteries. I have no idea why! Perhaps to save of the life of the batteries but I want my UPS to run until it is at least 10% left maybe 5% or even 1%. The problem with doing it as a percent is that the more batteries you have, the more you want to use. I had a SAN that was giving me warnings when it hit a certain percent of the storage. But I still had 1TB of space. My annual storage use was about 100GB so that the 1TB would last me at least 9 years. I've had both TrippLite and Eaton UPS; both powered everything down way early. Also, make certain it knows how many battery packs you have. Both of my units did not know about the 4 expansion packs I had on it. So it powered down after reaching 50% of the first battery pack. It's pretty easy to configure a TrippLite. Not so easy with an Eaton. The model I had was from 2015 but you had to jumper the units together with telephone cabling. But the units wouldn't tell me how many battery packs it had so I was never certain it was hooked up correctly. I also suggest that you simulate a load on that UPS and run it down. Although running it down will negatively impact the life of your batteries, you really need to know how long those batteries will carry your load. Now you can generally calculate how long it will last but, if it calculates out to 4 hours but runs out in 15 minutes, you will need to adjust your plans for a power outage. I would be interested in a video on configuring this UPS.

Putting nuts on those busbars would have 0 effect on anything, the only thing that I can see looking at that is that something from the piece that sits in front a wire or piece of metel somehow became bare and touched those 2 bars together....no way for them to interact as they are....its actually a bit bizarre I wouldn't blame Brian the Electrician whatsoever here
Endtimescoming Päivä sitten
Oh so those bars didnt have the studs soldered into them? and nuts actually hold the bars in place on that one...well then its once again the fault of the makers for shoddy work and quality assurance those ought to have been tighened in place and loctite been used.
KoKos Päivä sitten
In my opinion, this is completely pointless. For $30k+ you can get Tesla power walls and have full power redundancy for the whole building.

Yeah... Eaton fucked up and forgot to put the nuts on. Then they blame the installer. What a joke. You don't sell a product like that, ready to operate, but intended to be taken apart to put some fucking nuts on, then put back together again before things are connected. If that were standard procedure, the unit would not be functional until that procedure is completed. Eaton messed up. Shame on them for blaming the installer. At least they didn't try to stiff them on a replacement. But yeah... wtf at lack of ventilation space too.
